100 minutes per week. Time should be turned in every Tuesday with a parent/guardian signature. If a time sheet is lost, the link is posted under the Resources/Links tab so the student may download and print a new copy. Late time will not be accepted, time turned in without a signature will be docked one letter grade. Grades are impacted by practice time (or lack thereof), please make sure your child is keeping up.
As a 7th grader, you are eligible to participate in Pep Band, audition for Jazz Band, audition to go on the trip to Annapolis, Maryland, (pending number of 8th graders...), and will attend the MPA Festival. You are encouraged to prepare and audition for the All-County and All-District Band Auditions, especially if you are working with a private instructor.
The book you will be using in Intermediate Band this year is the Standard of Excellence, Book 2. (Blue book) Please note this is NOT the second book from last year's text. Please purchase STANDARD of Excellence, Book 2.
You need to have a 1" Binder for daily use in class
In class warm up materials will be provided: Warm Up Fundamentals, Foundations Pages, and Warm Ups and Beyond will be used sequentially to reinforce basic musicality.
The major concepts in music theory this year will be to learn to play:
Compound Meter - 3/8 and 6/8
Syncopation and 16th Notes
1. Focus on intonation skills - long tones and sustained breath support in both melodic and harmonic intervals.
2. Write in the Counting; Clap and Count appropriate rhythmic lines
3. Continue to grow and use appropriate musical vocabulary in discussions and on class work
